Obituary Karen Marie Sukup Hansen
Karen was born March 29, 1955 in Omaha, NE where she was placed in St. Joseph's Catholic Charities children's orphanage. Leo and Elinor (Block) Suup of verdigre, NE adopted Karen and welcomed her to her foreer home on the Sukup family farm in Jue of 1955. Karen was later joined by adopted trotther, Lyle. She was raised on the Sukup family farm southwest of Verdigre, surrounded by her immediate family, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins nearby. Karen attended District #26 Country School which was just a quarter of a mile from the farm. Many teachers were housed on the Sukup farm as Karen grew up. Karen attended Verdigre High School graduating in 1973.

She attended Mount Marty College in Yankton, SD after graduation. After a year at Mount Marty she transferred to Central Community College in Columbus, NE where she earned her Licensed Practical Nurlsing degree. Karen spent many years working at Lundberg Memorial Hospital in Creighton, NE and Alpine Villae Nursing Home in Verdigre, NE.

In 1976 Karen married Vance Hansen of Creighton at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Verdigre, NE. They moved to a farm just a few miles away from the Sukup family farm. Karen paused her nursing career as they welcomed three children to their family: Jason, Jamie and Jon. They spent may years raising Angus carrle with Leo, Elinor and Lyle and farming together, while also milking Holstein cows. Many years were spent attenting cattle shows and 4-H events with the kids. Karen also volunteered with the St. Wenceslaus Altar Society, taught CCD, and was a Eucharistic Minister. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, making numerous quilts for friends and family members over the years. Cemetery walking was also a favorite hobby of Karen's. She enjoyed researching Sukup and Block family genealogy, making scrapbooks and sharin photos with her family and cousins.

In 2006 Karen moved to Frankfort, SD and began working as a nurse again at Eastern Star Hoe in Redfield and at Good Samaritan in Clark. Later in 2011, Karen returned to Verdigre after the death of her mother Elinor and began working at the Creighton Care Centre until her retirement.

The last few years of life were spent keeping up with grandchildren's activities, volunteering at the Carousel in Verdigre , the Verdigre Museum and enjoying quiet time.

Karen is survived by her childsren, Jason and Staceyl (Emrich) Hansen of Norfolk, NE, Brian and Jamie Johnson of Frankfort, SD and John and Wendy Hansen (Rasmussen) of Verdigre, NE; grandchildren, Myranda and Elliott Hansen of Norfolk, NE., and Ella, Lila, Leo and Evelyn Johnson of Frankfort, SD and brother, Lyle Sukup.
She joins her parents, Leo and Elinor Sukup in eternal rest.
